Let’s face it; the gym is not all you thought it would be. You arrive with the intent to have a great workout.
Still, instead, experienced men grunting with every lift of a measly 20-pound dumbbell, women dolled up and parading around as if in a fashion show, the sweaty and nasty equipment you don’t want to touch with a 10-foot pole.
People gym fees his faithfully, but are unfaithful to working out. Do yourself a favor and stop throwing money away.
Cancel your gym membership and create your perfect home gym. You will not only be in the comfort of your own home but you will also save money and meet your goal of losing weight.
What equipment should you get for a home gym?
1.) Adjustable Dumbbells
Kick the myth that lifting weights will bulk you up to look like a man.
Studies have shown that lifting weights can increase your metabolism and create lean muscle, which in turn will make you look thin.
Adjustable dumbbells allow you to lift your desired weight without having to buy a set of 20 dumbbells.
2.) Weighted Jump Rope
Jumping rope burns more calories in less time and is more straightforward than many exercises performed today.
You will burn an average of 11 calories a minute to give you an idea of its benefits.
A weighted jump rope burns a considerable number of calories and can increase strength, which all promotes weight loss.
3.) Stability ball
The stability ball is an overall great piece of equipment that you can use to train your whole body. It improves balance and coordination as well as build muscles.
4.) Pull up Bar
The pull-up bar easily fits into your doorway and can be for exercises such as pull-ups, chin-ups, hanging knee raises knee to elbow, hanging leg raises, and much more.
5.) Aerobic Stepper
This may make you feel as if you stepped back into the ’80s, but the aerobic stepper is a great way to improve your posture, torch a high amount of calories and practice your skills in the at-home instead of embarrassing yourself falling over the stepper while at the gym.
6.) Yoga Mat
Yoga mats protect you from the creepy crawlers that roam the floor. It also provides you with a bit of cushion as you do your exercises.
7.) Workout DVDs
If you enjoyed instructor-led exercise routines, there are many options to choose from that fit your style and goals. A few of my favorites are listed below.
- T-25 by Shuan T includes 11 nonstop 25-minute workouts that allow you to get an hour’s results in just 25 minutes a day with FOCUS T25.
- Zumba Fitness Exhilarate Body Shaping System DVD- Comes with a variety of dance styles around the world, shorter as well as longer workout intervals and include maraca-like Zumba Toning Sticks.
- PiYo Base by Charlene Johnson has 10 easy-to-follow workouts that combine the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga.
8.) Ab Roller
This may seem like a simple piece of equipment that will not work, but it will give you work out you will not expect.
The ab roller strengthens and tones your upper abs, lower abs, obliques as well as defines your shoulders, arms, and back.
9.) Punching Bag
The punching bag is my absolute favorite exercise. It improves your overall strength, releases stress, and improves your self-defense techniques.
There is an option of standing or suspended punching bag depending on the space you have in your house.
With the use of a punching bag, you will need boxing gloves to protect your hands and knuckles.
You will also need wraps to protect your wrist and if you may need an extra set to protect your ankle if you decided to kickboxing.
10.) Adjustable Bench
The adjustable bench allows you to change the bench to various positions to perform dozens of upper and lower body exercises.
11.) Medicine Ball
The medicine ball is a weighted ball that helps develop core strength, balance, and coordination.
There are different weights available that allow you to choose a weight that is best for you.
12.) Resistance Band
Improve muscle tone in arms, legs, back & buttocks. Each resistance band in a set comes in different strengths so that you can increase the intensity of your workout gradually.
13.) Speaker or Good Set of Head Phones
Music is the motivation to push you through your work out. Regardless of if it is rock, classical, rap, country, or gospel, you need a good sound system that delivers.
14.) Scale
With any goal you are working on in life, it is essential to track your progress. Weekly weigh-in will keep you accountable on your journey to weight loss or a healthier lifestyle.
15.) Treadmill
Running is a great way to burn a crazy amount of calories and is also a great way to tone your legs and butt; thus, the Weslo Cadence G treadmill is the perfect home gym addition. You can run or walk at any time of the day. Rain or Shine.
So, now there are no more excuses! Pump up your home ASAP with these fantastic home gym must-haves, and you’ll be on your way to your best shape ever while saving money in the long run.
