As a grown woman, one of your fondest childhood memories is probably the time your mom bought ice creams, cookies, sweets, and other delicious snacks for you.

As a kid, this is not a problem. Your body can handle the insane amount of sugar you consume at this point.

But as you are growing older, you may start noticing tons of unwanted changes in your body if you don’t give up these habits.

eating too much sugar

Sugar is delicious… No one can deny this fact. Everyone wants it. Unfortunately, our body probably doesn’t want it in the same amount our brain does.

Too much sugar is really bad for your health. Scientists regard sugar as “empty calories” because it doesn’t contain any useful nutrients.

Some of the refined foods or fast foods you buy contain up to 12 teaspoons of per portion. No wonder a lot of people are suffering from sugar addiction.

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), major sources of added sugars include:

  • Ice cream
  • Soft drinks
  • Cookies
  • Candy
  • Cakes and pies
  • Fruit drinks

A lot of US adults have a love affair with sugar. According to the USDA, an average American consumes 150 to 170 pounds of sugar every year.

Approximately 80% of packaged foods contain added sweeteners. Soda is the leading food source of added sugars for adults ages 18-54 while 1/3 of added sugars consumed by adults come from beverages.

It seems you cannot escape from sugar no matter what you do. If you are not sure whether you are overeating sugar or not, this article will show you signs that you are overeating sugar.

Top Signs That You Are Overeating Sugar

What happens when you eat too much sugar

1.) Constant Craving For Sugar

Guess what? Sugar begets sugar. If you are always craving for sugary things, you are probably overeating sugar or suffering from sugar addiction.

You will need a sugar detox to help you eliminate this craving. By eating a high sugar diet, your hormonal response will be similar to someone addicted to drugs, it will bring you up, and then you crash down, and it triggers your body to want more sugar.

2.) Feeling Sluggish Throughout the Day (or Increased Fatigue)

Your body will lose its ability to store and absorb glucose properly when you have a high blood sugar level.

At this point, energy is used inefficiently, and your body cells won’t be getting enough fuel they need to function correctly.

Thus, you are likely to be feeling sluggish or experiencing increased fatigue when you have a sugar addiction.

You are probably overeating sugar when you start feeling tired for no reason. You need a sugar detox.

3.) Weight Gain

You are likely to start gaining more weight if you are consuming more than the recommended daily intake of sugar for women.

When you overeat sugar, most of them get stored as fat around the middle section, causing you to gain unwanted weight.

If you want to lose weight or get a hot body, sugar is probably one of the things you must avoid.

4.) Premature Ageing

No one wants to age faster than his mate. If you are looking way older than your mates for no reason, you may be consuming too much sugar.

Studies have proven that excessive sugar consumption can cause long-term damage to skin proteins, collagen, and elastin.

These damages can result in premature wrinkles and aging. As a woman, overeating sugar can lead to an imbalance in your menstrual hormones resulting in acne along the jawline.

5.) Feeling Moodier Than Usual

When blood sugar crashes, you can experience mood swings. Moreover, sugar causes low energy, which contributes to a bad attitude. If you are suffering from mood swings, you should check the amount of sugar you consume.

6.) Cavities

If you are getting more cavities lately, the amount of the sugar you consume may be the culprit. Eating sugar can impact the pH level of the cavity and causes an imbalance, which can lead to tooth decay. Too much sugar allows bacteria to thrive and multiply, leading to cavities.

Final Words

If you have any of these signs mentioned above, you may be eating too much sugar and will need to have a sugar detox. According to the American Heart Association, a woman should not consume more than 100 calories (6 teaspoons) of added sugar per day.

Men can consume up to 9 teaspoons or 150 calories of added sugar per day. Don’t allow too much sugar to ruin your beautiful skin and your health.
